Medicus / Wasserversorgung

Hello,

As I'm not skilled enough in German, let me ask you a question in English... This question was raised in the French forum dedicated to boardgame / cardgame Catan world.

Can I play the "Doctor" ("Medicus") against the "Plague" event ("Seuche") EVEN if I have an "Aqueduc" ("Wasserversorgung") ? (This would allow me to discard a usless card from my hand)

No, it isn't allowed to play cards which have no effect. Since the protection against the plaque is already achieved by the aequeduct, the medicus can't be played. But you can sell the medicus to the Secret Brotherhod or save him until all arsonists are played.

the medicus is wack. i'm sorry. i never used this card.

you should think about it, which other card would look much better in your card deck

for what is it good (the medicus)? the wasserversorgung or a simple badhaus makes the same job, gets you a victory point and takes the same number of cards (you can only take 33!)
you already noticed something: the card blocks your hand & you wish to loose it anyway....

there are so many very funny actioncards, i'm sure you are able to replace the medicus for something better & much more useful/powerful...

I agree with nona. The "Medicus" is an almost useless card and you will sure find a better alternative to complete your set of 33 cards.

Actually, I never use the Medicus myself in any deck. I agree it is a weak card and that there are many other usefull cards to include! (In fact, it was more a theoretical question raised by someone on the French Catan Forum)

Many of the action cards suggested by Nona are usually in my decks ;)

The question raised by Izwal is of some practical relevance for the expanded basic game "Politics & Intrigue" where it can easily happen that one would like to get rid of one of the two very weak Medici included in the set (after having drawn them by chance or to get to a card below them). Not only the combination Plague / Aqueduct but also the combination Plague / Bath House or Plague / No resources next to cities may raise the question.

But as RedPiranha said - it is only allowed to play the Medicus (or any other card) if it has an effect - i. e. only if you would lose at least 1 resource to a Plague if you did not play the Medicus.

Playing P&I it is easy to get rid of the medici using the Council Meeting.
